about

This work continues my long sustained sonic exploration of Tagus (Tejo) river estuary since the late nineties and specifically here the water borderline of Barreiro.

These field recordings combine observation and experimentation with underwater sounds, different microphones, including mainly underwater hydrophones.

These have been placed to enhance the particularities of the space from oscillating piers and abandoned structures capturing the ghostly movement of boats passing by on the distance or approaching shore.

The present recordings were assembled and recomposed from the film "A raiz da margem" co-directed with Silvia Coelho In 2020 about the work and environment of sea gatherers along the the river line.

Beyond the techniques of field recordings, it draws into a personal, intimate map. A sense of belonging and presence.

From 1997 Installation "Arcanae Rumore" central Tejo (actual MAAT) to the movie "Raiz da Margem" (2020). This work also relates to HADES (2006/cd And/Oar) which was based on sound recordings made aboard Lisbon ferries, and the installations at CCB museum, FACA (Happy as a clam) or the site specific exhibition Sons do Arco Ribeirinho
