about

Three sound artists' approaches to plants: Along an intimate and reciprocal history, plants are involved, both tactilely and vibrationally, with one's awareness of landscape.

High Desert Florascape
by Steve Peters
:
A selection of brittle specimens found in the high desert of New Mexico, activated by hands and wind: cholla, globe mallow, piñon, claret cup cactus, cottonwood, blue fescue, juniper, four-wing saltbush.

Mata
by Marco Scarassatti
:
Mata is synonymous of Forest, but it is also, in Portuguese, the conjugation of the verb to kill in the third person singular. This work gathers research and extraction of audios in sound and video archives, in which we listen to the destruction of tropical forests by human hands, either by fire, or by cutting down trees, or even by dragging through the big chain “correntão". To these collected sounds, are added fabricated sounds of what would be the creaking of the movement roots inside the soil. At the end emerges contrasting, a field recording made on a rainy day, in the Mbya Guarani village Ko'enju, located near the city of São Miguel das Missões, in Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil.

“is Venus flytrap (Dionaea muscipula) dreaming about flies?”
alfa00 (sonic entity of Slavek Kwi)
:
“... extreme conditions of environment = extreme adaptation/methods to be. absurd situation = paradox of existence = unspeakable and wordless: how to be in the world? all of us - together - regardless of all which separates us.thinking as observing thoughts as objects floating in self-contained universe of selfdome, bubbling in unison: abstract ventures (of stories?), narratives = always too late ...
are you dreaming this world? bubble after bubble?
always the same but different again ...”
(extract from poem by MollyVienka Harrison, June 2035)

Abstract_reflection upon this phenomena in “kwatarese” metalanguage recorded live in February2023 by alfa00 (sonic entity of Slavek Kwi) and expanded with parallel associations (various
complementary field recordings-like sounds), Eastern Clare, Ireland
