about

Ni yuxibū xinã rewe (Sound of Spirit Forest)

The Huni Kuin people live on the banks of the Jordan River, inside the Amazon Forest, in the state of Acre, almost at the border with Peru, and have in the NixiPae, Ayahuasca, their medicine and vehicle for access to the Spirit of the Forest.

Singing, within the Huni Kuin cosmo-perception, is also a strong and essentialment for the connection with the spirit of the Forest, in an anamorphic reconfiguration. During the Nixi Pae ritual, the invocation of the spirit, “miração”and healing, are evoked through chanting and after the ingestion of the sacred drink.

Ni yuxibū xinã rewe which in Portuguese means Sounds of the Spirit of theForest, emerged from an initial contact with Ibã, in 2016 when I recorded the chants of Nixi Pae (Ayahuasca), in Porto Seguro, Bahia.

Since then, and especially after my ";miração" experience conducted by Ibã himself, I started working on his and his chanting, in order to create the sound space of the trance, with the dilation of time and the transformation of space through chanting. These are chants of cleansing and healing that evoke the power of the Nixi Pae and its"miração" the power of the rivers, the ish, and the animalsof the forest. They are chants offered in dreams to people who need help.

In 2020 Livio Tragtenberg and I received an invitation to create a sound installation during the Culture spaces Festival in Switzerland. We proposed an audiovisual performance of ours to the festival, with the participation of Ibã, in addition to video images created especially for this show by Luiz Pretti. In this way, we create the atmosphere of Nixi ritualistic trance, through an acoustic, visual, musical experience.

Ibã Huni Kuin is a Txana, that is, a master of the songs of his people. And also an important leadership in rescuing the traditions of the Huni Kuin. The expressive reach of his voice, creates and magnetizes the environment where he ritual takes place, which, added to the effect of the ayahuasca, transports you to a dimension of the sacred ancestor, the mythical, the breath and listening of the spirit of the Forest. He created with his son Bane, the MAHKU – Huni Kuin Artists Movement.

Marco Scarassatti is a sound artist, improviser and composer. He develops research and construction of sculptures and sound installations, in addition tofield recordings. He recently created the Orquestra de Músicos das Ruas de São Paulo, whose CD NEUROPOLIS was released by Selo SESC, he also created the Nervous City Orchestra in Miami, USA, the Berliner Strassenmusiker Orchester in Berlin, and the Orquestra Mediterrânea.

Marco Scarassatti é artista sonoro, improvisador e compositor.
