about

For flute and electronics
(except tracks #1 and 4 feat. bass clarinet)

Using the flute, performed by virtuoso Paulo Chagas, as predominant instrument, the piece invokes the wind as a central element to the composition and evocative of the geography and of Ruy Belo poetry who spent his summers in Praia da Consolação (“Consolation beach, if you’d like to translate it) and was a erverous wind poet. Em Louvor do Vento.
As the title points out, it refers to a certain type of wind, common around those parts, that blows from the sea towards land. Or as the surfers put it “On Shore Wind", a phenomenon that produces a strong ondulation accentuated by a strong atmospheric pressure.

Unaudible wind recordings constituted the background to develop the composition structure along with the riginal flute improvisation. Remains a short ocean wave beating on the sand at praia do Baleal.

The present composition is vaguely based on the 4 speaker sound installation designed for the church of S.José in Atouguia da Baleia during the excellent Mia Festival in 2017.
